About Us

Who is Canadian Registry Services?

Canadian Registry Services (“CRSI”) was established in January 2001. We are a privately owned Canadian company based in Mississauga, Ontario.

Is Canadian Registry Services a government body?

No, Canadian Registry Services is a private Canadian company that acts as a Registrar to register and renew domains.

What happens if I don't renew my Domain Name before it expires?

After your domain name has expired, it will no longer resolve to your website. This means that when someone attempts to visit your website, an error page will appear. Also, a 30 day grace begins, giving you your LAST CHANCE to renew your domain. After these 30 days expire, your domain name will be deactivated, and will become available for someone else to register. At that point, it may become difficult or even impossible to re-register your domain.

What methods of payment do you offer?

Payment can be in the form of VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, personal or company cheque. Please download and print  this form  if you would rather send payment in by mail.
Please note however, that mail-in orders will NOT be processed until payment has cleared.

How much does it cost?

The pricing depends on the term you choose, please visit our Pricing Page.

What happens if my domain name is not successfully transferred to you?

If for any reason your Domain Name transfer to us is unsuccessful, your payment will be credited back to you as per our Terms & Conditions.

Is there a difference between who I registered with before and CRSI?

No, there is no technical difference to whom you registered with, everything stays the same. We offer the consumer a much lower price to register or renew a domain, a more efficient customer service center, and local presence for customer convenience.

How long does it take to register or renew a Domain Name?

If you register online, we immediately submit your domain application to CIRA (The Canadian Internet Registration Authority). They will then contact you via email requesting that you either confirm or decline your registration or renewal. Once this is done, the process is complete. If you send in payment by mail; your domain will be registered once your payment clears, and you will need to complete the process stated above.

Domain Renewals are also done instantaneously IF the domain is already held by us (CRSI). Renewals that first require a transfer to CRSI are impossible to estimate a completion time for, as the domain owner must approve the transfer to CRSI first. This could take a customer minutes, or days, depending on when they get around to it.

What if I want to make changes to my Domain?

Simply go to our website at http://www.crsi.ca and click on “manage my domain”. Once you register or renew a domain with us, you will be asked for a password which you use to enter the management page.

What is your refund policy?

New domain name registrations and renewals are non refundable once confirmed by you at the CIRA website.

If the registraton / renewal has not yet been confirmed at the CIRA website, a refund is possible.

Why doesn't CRSI have a phone number?

We prefer to assist customers via email so that we do not incur unneccessary long distance charges, which would raise our prices. We respond to emails quickly (almost always within the same day) and give detailed answers to all your questions..

Registering a new name

What if I change my mind, or spell a name wrong. Can I get my money back?

You can only receive a refund if you have not yet confirmed the registration / renewal at the CIRA website. If you have not yet done so, we can correct the error and resubmit the registration an an alternative.

What does it mean when I look for a name and it is available but the software says I cannot purchase it because there is a duplicate entry?

It means the name is in another account but has not been actually purchased yet. Contact technical support for assistance, or email: service@crsi.ca

Renewing a name

Where did I register my domain name before?

Please perform a WHOIS on your .ca domain name here, and look for the Registrar name at the top of the report.

Will you remind me the domain is going to expire before you automatically renew it?

Yes. An email notification will be sent to you from CIRA 45 days prior to expiration. We do not automatically renew domains.

I hit "Purchase" by mistake. Can I cancel the registration / renewal and get my money back?

All registration / renewal sales are final once they are confirmed with CIRA. If you have not yet confirmed your registration / renewal, a refund is possible.

DNS Services

What is URL Redirection?

URL Redirection allows you to select an existing web page to forward all domain traffic to. Simply provide us with the URL (web address) you wish traffic to be transferred to and we'll do the rest!

With URL Redirection, your domain name is forwarded to an existing website and a visitor's browser displays the existing website's URL in the address bar. Redirection is a great way to consolidate traffic to one website.

Example:

  • you have a website at www.mydomain.com

  • you forward your related domains such as myotherdomain.com and myotherdomain.ca to www.mydomain.com

  • when someone types www.myotherdomain.com or www.myotherdomain.ca into the address bar of their Internet browser, they get redirected to www.mydomain.com and they see "http://www.mydomain.com" in their browser's address bar.

What is URL Framing?

URL Framing is a variation of URL Redirection. It creates an 'invisible' frame that holds ("grips") the desired URL, while displaying the content of the site being forwarded to.

With URL Framing, your domain name is forwarded to an existing website and a visitor's browser displays your domain name in the address bar rather than the existing website's URL. This is perfect for those who have a long and difficult-to-remember web-address or for those who want to show they have specific websites for each product.

Example:

  • you have a website at www.myisp.com/users/~myhome/index.html

  • you forward mydomain.ca to www.myisp.com/users/~myhome/index.html

  • when someone types www.mydomain.ca into the address bar of their Internet browser, they get redirected to www.myisp.com/users/~myhome/index.html (i.e. they see the content of the website) but they see "http://www.mydomain.ca" in their browser's address bar

What is Email Forwarding?

Email Forwarding is an extremely powerful tool that allows you to create an unlimited number of email addresses (aliases) for a registered domain name and have them redirected to a working email address. Using your own easy to remember domain name, Email Forwarding is the perfect way to mask a generic ISP email address or a long, cumbersome address.

  • Multiple "aliases" may be set up (e.g. president@yourdomain.ca, info@yourdomain.ca, sales@yourdomain.ca) which you can then forward to any working email address (a great way for small businesses to mimic a larger corporation)

  • There is no limit to the number of aliases you create

  • You can channel all aliases to one existing email address or channel each alias to a distinct email address

  • You may also choose the "All Aliases" option that automatically forwards anything@yourdomain.ca to one email address.

All you need is:

  • a working email address for the email aliases to channel to (can be through a free email service such as hotmail.com as long as it works)

  • a registered domain name that is not already hosted by another internet service provider

Please note that Email Forwarding does NOT provide you with an email account or mailbox with which you can store email or send email. Email Forwarding is not suitable for customers who have specified their own Domain Name Server (DNS) information for their domain name (i.e. the domain name is already hosted by an Internet Service Provider and has an active website).

Applications:

Email Forwarding is especially powerful for families and small businesses Here's how.

Families

  • Register your surname/family name with CRSI.CA

  • Create an alias email address firstname@surname.ca for yourself or for all members of your family and specify to what working email address you want each alias email address to be forwarded to

  • If your working email account changes, you simply need to change the forwarding details without ever having to inform your contacts that your email address has changed!

Small Businesses and Home Businesses

  • Register your business name with CRSI.CA

  • Create email addresses (aliases) info@yourdomain.ca or sales@yourdomain.ca and specify to what working email address you want each alias email address to be forwarded to

  • If your working email account changes, you simply need to change the forwarding details without ever having to inform your contacts that your email address has changed!

ALL ALIASES OPTION

This will forward any possible email @yourdomain.ca to the email that you specify. Therefore, if someone types webmaster@yourcompany.ca or mistypes suport@yourcompany.ca or inf@yourcompany.ca, the email will still go to your working email address:

What is Domain Parking?

Domain Parking is useful for those who have registered their .ca domain name, but do not yet have a website built. Domain Parking presents visitors to your domain name a page that contains 255 characters of text that you provide, for example your contact information. Pictures however, may not be used. It is also important that it be known that CRSI does not provide this service "in-house" and that the 3rd party provide of this service, "eNom INC" may also display their own advertising on this page, which CRSI has no control over.

Are these DNS services right for me?

For most low bandwidth applications (e.g. a personal website), yes, these services work very well. However, businesses and other applications where email is mission critical should not choose this service. This is because there are no service guarantees associated with this service, as they are provided through a 3rd party, not crsi.ca.
